A leaked report from Goldman Sachs analyst Salveen Richter has revealed the disturbing mentality of those that profit from our ailments.

It reads: “Science is on the brink of a breakthrough – a gene therapy that could cure numerous genetic conditions by altering individual units of DNA… The potential to deliver 'one-shot cures' is one of the most attractive aspects of gene therapy, genetically-engineered cell therapy, and gene editing. However, such treatments offer a very different outlook with regard to recurring revenue versus chronic therapies.”

The report went on to use the example of a hepatitis C drug that made Gilead Sciences $12.5 billion in 2015, alone. But because it cures the disorder so effectively – and in only 12 weeks – profits from this drug are now below $4 billion annually. Richter’s report concludes: “While this proposition carries tremendous value for patients and society, it could represent a challenge for… sustained cash flow.”

Simply put, Big Pharma and its investors stand to make way more money if they offer drugs that keep you sick rather than actually cure diseases.
